Do not take flash photographs. Imagine 100 people all taking flash photos of you at the same time. This sometimes happens when people do not think of the consequences. Imagine coming in from the sea, looking for your nest and looking up at 100 cameras all with flashing lights.

Do not try to handle penguins they are wild birds with wild tempers and vicious beaks.This is a wild colony that you have the opportunity to view at close range please respect their home and do not climb on the rocks.

If you use a torch please cover the lens with red cellophane. Penguins see less in the red spectrum of light and will not be spooked.

Penguins are present year round in the public area of the St Kilda Breakwater. In mid winter you may only see a few but in summer there are plenty. Best viewing just after sunset.
